Men's Results

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's fencing team was dominant throughout on Saturday at the Philadelphia Invitational, notching six wins to improve to 13-1 on the season.

For the second straight competition, the Red and Blue claimed a 22-5 win over Haverford. Sabre and epee each took down the Fords by scores of 9-0 in the win. The morning continued with an impressive 19-8 win over Sacred Heart. Evan Prochniak and Michael Mills were each 3-0 as sabre again keyed the win with an 8-1 edge over the Pioneers. Wrapping up the morning by facing their only ranked opposition of the day, the Quakers relied on the foil squad to grab the win over the Blue Devils, 18-9. Leland Bernstein went 3-0, while Ira Schlosberg and Jason Chang won twice each in foil's 8-1 domination.

Penn received a bit of a challenge in its first bout of the afternoon, but 6-3 advantages in each weapon group gave the Quakers a fairly comfortable win over Johns Hopkins. The day ended in convincing fashion as Penn knocked off Drew and NJIT by scores of 21-6 each. All told, the Quakers only suffered two losses on the day across all weapons.

The men are back in action next weekend, traveling to Cambridge, Mass. on Feb. 3 for the Eric Sollee Invitational. The Quakers will face Stevens Tech, MIT, Boston College and Brandeis.
