PHILADELPHIA – It will be a double-dose of top ranked squash teams for Penn on Wednesday when the men and women travel north on I-95 to Princeton, N.J. The Tigers are the No. 1 ranked team in both the men’s and women’s Dunlop College Squash Team Rankings after matching wins over Harvard. The women’s match will get underway first at 5 p.m. at the Jadwin Squash Courts, and the men will close the night at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Women

This will be a battle between two of the top teams in the country as Penn comes in ranked thid after a huge win over then-No. 4 – now No. 5 – Trinity (Yale's loss at No. 3 helped as well). The loss was the Bantams’ first of the season and was good enough to give the Quakers that extra push to climb past the No. 5 spot in the rankings – a spot where they had sat since the beginning of the season.

The Red and Blue will head into Wednesday’s match riding high after their thrilling win over Trinity, which was highlighted by their young talent. Freshmen Yan Xin (No. 2), Haidi Lala (No. 4), and Camille Lanier (No. 8) each won their matches, with Lanier’s five-game victory proving to be the most pivotal on the day. In addition, tri-captain Pia Trikha and Chloe Blacker were able to secure wins, maintaining their perfect individual records on the year. Lastly, Courtney Jones finished the night off with her fourth win of the season.

Penn isn’t the only squad entering the match after a huge, upset victory. Princeton managed to take down last season’s Howe Cup champion Harvard, and unseat the Crimson from the No. 1 ranking with a tight 5-4 win, making the jump all the way from No. 4 to the top spot.

Despite trailing in the all-time series, 41-7, Penn has had the advantage of late, winning three of the last four matches. The last time the two programs met, Penn came away victorious at home on Dec. 3 of last season, 6-3. The last time they visited Jadwin, the Quakers fell, 7-2, in a first-round Howe Cup match.

Men

It will be another tough test for the No. 12 Quakers against top-ranked Princeton. Penn is fresh off a heartbreaking, 9-0, defeat at the hands of second-ranked Trinity. Despite playing long points with extensive volleys in most matches, the Red and Blue’s effort was not reflected by the score – Daniel Judd, Tyler Odell, and senior captain Danny Greenberg were the only three Quakers that managed to win a few games for Penn.

As for the Tigers, much like their female counterparts, they bested the Crimson, 5-4, in their most recent match. But unlike the Princeton women, the men were favored to win the night as the higher ranked team, and entered the match as the defending Ivy League and Potter Cup Champions. The men downed the Crimson, and first time this century Princeton has the top-ranked team in both men’s and women’s college squash.

The last time the two teams met was on Dec. 3 of last season in Philadelphia. The Quakers fell, 9-0, and now trail Princeton, 80-11, in the all-time series. Penn has won four matches as the visitor and will look to earn its first victory in the series since 1974.
