Cambridge, Mass. - The No. 8 Penn men's fencing team proved worthy of its rank on Sunday at the Eric Sollee Invitational, posting large victories over Stevens Tech, MIT, Boston College and Brandeis.

The narrowest win on the day came in Penn's first bout, a 19-8 decision over Stevens Tech.  Spurred on by an 8-1 edge in saber and a combined 5-0 mark from Michael Mills and Sean Turner, the Ducks couldn't keep up with the Quakers despite competitive showings from foil and epee.

Saber again had an 8-1 mark in the day's second bout, but a 9-0 mark from foil keyed a 21-6 decimation of MIT. Jason Chang, Denes Marton and Sinatrio Raharjo all went 3-0 for Penn against the Engineers.

Against the Boston College Eagles, the Red and Blue turned to some oft-overlooked members of the saber team. Sitting Mills and Evan Prochniak in the bout, Turner, Elliot Tusk and Michael Zhuang picked up the slack and provided Penn with a 9-0 margin of victory. BC had better showings in epee and foil, but the Quakers held on for a 20-7 win. The day ended against Brandeis and again the saber team sparked the win with a 9-0 showing. Mills and Prochniak joined Zhuang and Steven Yang to pave the way to the 23-4 victory over the Judges.

The Quakers are in action again next weekend, traveling back to Cambridge to compete in the Ivy League Round-Robins on the campus of Harvard University. The two-day event will get started on Feb. 9 and end on Feb. 10 from the Albert H. Gordon Track.
