Meet Schedule
PHILADELPHIA - With the Heptagonal Indoor and IC4A Championships fast approaching - in addition to a winter storm this weekend - the University of Pennsylvania men's
track & field team heads to New York City for the Rider/Lafayette
Invitational at the Armory on Friday night.
The meet is expected to be out of harms way and may
add schools if meets are cancelled and teams need a place to compete. At
this time, Penn and Columbia are the only Ivy League schools scheduled
to compete. The night will get underway at 5 p.m. with several field
events, while the track will see its first event at 5:25 p.m. with the
5,000 meters. The meet is set to conclude at 10:40 p.m.
Last week, the Quakers finished seventh behind several IC4A qualifying performances at Penn State's Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup on Saturday in State College, Pa. The top two finishers in the 2,000-meter steeplechase
were wearing the Red and Blue. Senior Mike Kiley and freshman Brendan
Smith finished first and second, respectively. Maalik Reynolds was second in the high jump when he passed the bar at 2.16 meters (7 feet, 1 inch). In the shot put, Jake Brenza was seventh with a toss of 16.11 meters (52-10.75 ft.).
In Penn's last visit to the Armory, four Quakers - Kirk Webb, Semi Ibikunle, Tim Carey
and Thomas Pitt - won individual titles to help the team to a first-place finish on Jan. 26. Webb posted his first individual collegiate victory with a
narrow in the 800 meters, while Pitt won the high jump for the second
straight week. Ibikunle won his first event as a Quaker with a victory in the long jump and Carey was victorious in the 500 meters.
The Quakers have just one more weekend remaining
before the 2013 Indoor Heptagonal Championships at Harvard's Gordon
Track on Feb. 23-24.
