ECAC Release
PHILADELPHIA – Elyse
Shenberger competed in her first-ever collegiate meet as an all-around gymnast
at West Chester on Feb. 8. The freshman posted three career-highs and was named
ECAC Division I Rookie of the Week.
Shenberger was dominant in her first all-around competition.
The Hummelstown, Pa. native scored career-highs on bars (9.750 – second place),
floor (9.725 – third place) and the all-around (38.675), leading Penn to a
191.625-187.750 victory over the Golden Rams. Her all-around score was good
enough for first place – she also added a 9.525 on vault for sixth and a 9.675 on
beam which tied for second.
This is Shenberger’s second such award on the season, having
won the Co-Rookie of the Week Award on Jan. 27 after helping the Red and Blue
to a dual win over Yale.
Penn will be back in action on Feb. 17 when it welcomes
Bridgeport to the Palestra on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
