Ivy League Release

PHILADELPHIA - Junior high jumper Maalik Reynolds earned All-Ivy accolades for the fifth time in his career on Wednesday as announced by the league office. He finished second for the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team on Sunday at the 2013 Indoor Heptagonal Championships.

Reynolds, a four-time Heps champion, was named second-team All-Ivy after he matched Cornell's Montez Blair throughout Sunday's high jump event. Reynolds passed on the first four bars. At that point, there were only four competitors remaining, including freshman teammate Thomas Pitt. Reynolds cleared 2.12 meters (6 feet, 11 1/2 inches) on his first attempt of the day.

Reynolds and Blair were the only two left when the bar was raised to 2.16 meters (7-01 ft.). Blair was over on his second attempt and Reynolds kept the event going when he cleared the bar on his third and final jump. However, neither competitor was able to cleanly pass the bar at 2.20 meters and Blair took home the Heps title with fewer misses on the previous bar.

This is the fifth All-Ivy honor for the Atlanta, Ga., native. Reynolds is a four-time first-team honoree, holds the indoor and outdoor school records in the high jump and is a three-time All-American.
