#16 Women's Lacrosse Takes On #17 Towson

PHILADELPHIA – No. 16 Penn will undertake its second Top-20 challenge of the season on Saturday as the Quakers venture south to Baltimore to take on No. 17 Towson. First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Charm City.

Notes to Know …

The Quakers are 3-0 all-time in games against Towson.

This will be Penn’s first trip to Towson since the 2006 season – a 10-6 win for the Quakers.

Last season, Penn tamed the Tigers, 12-5, at Franklin Field. Lely DeSimone, Iris Williamson, and Tory Bensen each had hat tricks for the Quakers in the win last season. Megan Kelly had four caused turnovers and three grounds balls to help lead the defensive group.

Things to Know About Towson …
Towson enters the game with a 6-1 record … The Tigers had won their first six games of 2016 before a 15-7 loss at No. 2 Florida on March 14 … Towson entered the national rankings after a 9-5 win at then-No. 19 Loyola on Feb. 28 … The only common opponent for Penn and Towson this season has been Georgetown – Penn recently scored a 15-8 win over the Hoyas, while Towson edged Georgetown, 8-7 … Sophomore Kaitlyn Montalbano has 15 goals and eight assists for 23 points – one point off her total from all of last season … Freshman Carly Tellekamp has proven a nice addition to the Towson attack with 14 goals in seven games as a collegiate player … The Tigers have outscored their opponents, 74-44, this season – including a 44-27 edge in the first half … Tianna Wallpher has 10 caused turnovers and 13 ground balls to pace the defense … Six players have double figures in ground balls for Towson which has collected 114 as a team through seven games.

Corcoran Ascending Assist Charts …
Nina Corcoran is one of the nation’s leading playmakers, ranking fifth among active players with 87 assists and sixth in assists-per-game with 1.47. Corcoran’s 18 assists this season are No. 1 in the Ivy League and sixth in the county. Her 3.0 assists-per-game in 2016 are also No. 1 in the Ivy League and rank No. 3 among all Division I players.

Nina’s Numbers are No. 1 …
In terms of points, Nina Corcoran is No. 1 in the Ivy League and No. 28 in the country with 27 points through six games. Her 4.5 points-per-game are second in the Ivy League and 15th in the country.

Corcoran Closing in on All-Time Record …
One of the most prolific playmakers in Penn history, Nina Corcoran is closing in on the program’s all-time assists record. She has 87 helpers entering this weekend – tied for second-most all-time (Erin Brennan ’12) and 21 away from tying the all-time record of 108 set by Sherry Marcantonio ’83. Corcoran’s 146 career points are eighth-most all-time by a Quaker. She is four away from taking over seventh place.

Britt Brown Backstopping Defense …
Goalkeeper Britt Brown is second among Ivy League goalkeepers with a 6.61 GAA. Her .513 save percentage is third among Ivy keepers. Among goalkeepers nationally, she ranks No. 7 in GAA and No. 11 in save percentage.

Williamson Among League Leaders in Goals …
Senior Iris Williamson has scored 16 goals this season, third among Ivy Leaguers. She is also third in goals-per-game with 2.67, a number which ranks No. 38 in the country.

The Williamson Watch …
With her 82 career goals and 15 career assists, Iris Williamson is sitting on 97 career points – three away from becoming the 23rd Quaker to reach 100 career points. Her 82 goals are already among the program’s all-time records – ranking tied for No. 13.

Penn Prides Itself on Possession …
The Quakers have not been kind to opponents this season, refusing to give up possession without a fight. Penn is No. 1 in the county in turnovers-per-game, committing just 9.33 per outing.

Another Ivy Nod for Nina …
For the third time this season – and second consecutive week – Nina Corcoran was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week. For the second week in a row, she racked up 10 points in a pair of Penn wins. After going for seven points in a win at Saint Joseph’s via two goals and five assists, she had three helpers in a win at Georgetown.

Quakers Hound Hoyas …
Penn traveled to the nation’s capital last weekend and was clearly the party in power to the tune of a 15-8 win over Georgetown. Emily Rogers-Healion had four goals and an assist in the win, while Lely DeSimone had four caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Corcoran Claims Second Ivy Weekly Award …
Nina Corcoran’s 10-point week secured her second Ivy League weekly award of the season as she was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week. The selection was the third of her career.

Penn Wins City Showdown at Saint Joseph’s, 12-6
An 8-0 run to open the game built a comfortable cushion for the Quakers in a Philly clash at Saint Joseph’s on March 8. Nina Corcoran had two goals and five assists to lead the Quakers, while Iris Williamson and Alex Condon each recorded hat tricks. Brooke Kiley was a force on the draw, winning six.
