PHILADELPHIA - The seedings and brackets for the 2009 EIWA Championships were announced tonight, and nine of Penn's ten wrestlers received seeds heading into the tournament.
Rollie Peterkin is Penn's highest-seeded wrestler, picking up the two seed at 125 pounds. He will wrestle Rutgers' Matt Fusco in round one.
At 133 pounds, Bryan Ortenzio is the fifth seed. He drew a bye in the opening round and will wrestle either Brown's Ross Baldwin or Bucknell's David Marble in the quartefinals.
Rick Rappo also drew a bye at 141 pounds. He is seeded third in the weight class and will meet either Navy's Matt Pagan or Brown's Steven DeLorenzo.
Cesar Grajales is the four seed at 149 pounds and will wrestle Princeton's Daniel Kolodzik in the first round of an extremely loaded weight class.
Matt Dragon is seeded third at 157 pounds. The two-time EIWA champ has a first-round bye and will meet either American's Patrick Graham or Princeton's Martin Everin in the quarters.
At 165 pounds, Andrew Coles will step in for injured Zack Shanaman. Coles has a tough draw in round one as he will compete against undefeated No. 1-seed Mack Lewnes of Cornell.
Scott Giffin is the third seed at 174 pounds and will wrestle Brown's Bran Crudden in the opening round.
At 184 pounds, Colin Hitschler is the seventh seed. His opponent in the first round will be Franklin & Marshall's James Schulz.
Thomas Shovlin picked up the sixth seed at 197 pounds. He will open with Bucknell's Nathan Jones.
Trey McLean is the fourth Quaker to earn a third seed, doing so at 285 pounds. McLean has a bye in the first round and is set to wrestle either F&M's Nico Somers or Brown's Zach Zdrada.
