Women's 2012 Cross Country Schedule

Beginning his duties as Director of Cross Country/Track & Field, Steve Dolan announced the 2012 men's and women's cross country schedules on Tuesday.

The season gets off to a challenging start on Sept. 7 as the Quakers and La Salle Explorers stay close to home, meeting in a dual meet at Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia. La Salle won both the men's and women's Atlantic-10 Championships in cross country last season.

A week later on Sept. 15, Penn will be back on familiar turf competing in the Iona Meet of Champions in New York City's Van Cortlandt Park. This is the fifth consecutive year the Quakers have run in the meet, with the women narrowly missing out on the team title in 2011, settling for second place while the men finished seventh overall.

On Sept. 28, the Red and Blue will toe the line at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., now in its 38th year. The Quakers were one of 45 schools competing on both the men's and women's sides a season ago, a field that included many national title contenders.

The month of October opens with the re-introduction of Lafayette's Leopard Invitational (Oct. 13), a race Penn hasn't competed in since both the men's and women's teams took home titles at the 2006 event.

Everything builds towards Oct. 27, which will see the Quakers heading off to compete at the Heptagonal Championships on Princeton's West Windsor Fields. Theteams thengo to Penn State onNov. 10for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, andhave the possibility of qualifyingfor the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19 in Louisville, Ky. either as a team or as individuals depending on final placement in that race.
