Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dawkins, Sands Send Women's Soccer Past Delaware State, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three matches Monday night against Delaware State behind goals from Maddie Dawkins and Emily Sands, as the Quakers picked up their second win at Rhodes Field with a 2-0 win. Penn dominated possession from the onset of the match, keeping the ball in the Delaware State third for much of the evening while outshooting the Hornets 19-2 in the final non-conference match of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
*Paige Howard and Emily Sands were at the forefront of the Quakers' offensive attack early and often Friday night, as both were able to get open opportunities on goal in the first eight minutes. That trend continued in the 15th minute when Howard found Katharine Larson on the right wing before centering a pass for Emma Loving in front of the net. Loving timed her sliding shot perfectly, but the ball was flicked just wide of the near post.

*As the Quakers continued to build opportunities on the offensive end before the end of the half, Camillia Nwokedi sent a cross into the center of the box from deep in the right corner that was deflected right to Kristen Miller. Although Miller's ensuing strike on goal found the back of the net, the goal was negated due to an offsides call as the two teams entered the break scoreless.

*Larson continued to create opportunites down the right side for the Quakers and, in the 61st minute, sent a ball in to Howard on the right edge of the box who then turned to find Sands at the top of the 18. After clearing a defender with a quick move to her left foot, Sands lofted a high, left-footed shot that beat the reach of the outstretched keeper to give Penn the lead.

*In the 82nd minute, Sasha Stephens delivered a high cross to the center of box on a corner kick that found both Chase Geffert and Ann Manella inside the six yard box, but their shots were met with two outstanding saves by Hornet keeper Leslie Fazio to keep it a one-goal game.

*With mere seconds left on the clock and the entire Delaware State squad pushed up into Penn territory, Maddie Dawkins was able to control a cleared ball and take it the length of the field before finishing over a leaping Fazio with a high-arching shot to close out the match - while also providing the Quakers with their first multi-goal performance of the season.

*Kiera Towell and Ashley Gabor combined for the shutout in net with the assistance of a stellar performance from the Penn back line. The Quakers also held the advantage in corners, 6-0.
