RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team traveled to Virginia this weekend as they took on William & Mary and VCU. The Quakers looked to bounce back after last week's narrow 4-3 loss to Old Dominion, but once again came up short in both matches losing 4-3 to the Tribe on Saturday evening and then 4-2 to the Rams on Sunday afternoon.
With the losses, Penn moves to 0-3 in dual matches this spring and will hope to get their first win of the new year when the host DePaul and Georgetown at Hecht Tennis Center for a double-header next Sunday.

How it Happened
The Quakers began the weekend on Saturday against William and Mary. Losing two out of three doubles, Penn would need to win four of the six singles in order to get the win. Earning the lone win in doubles was the team of
Max Cancilla and

Mautner tied things up at 1-1 after a 7-5, 6-3 win of his own. The Quakers lost two of the next three matches in three sets. After winning the first set 6-2,
Josh Pompan fell 6-2, 6-4. At number four,
Nicholai Westergaard lost 6-1 in the third after winning a second set tiebreaker to even the match.
Dmitry Shatalin won his second straight three set match winning 6-4 in the third after splitting the first two sets at 6-3 apiece.
While
Max Cancilla won 6-3, 6-1 at number five, Huryn came up just short at number six losing 6-0, 7-5 to clinch the match for William & Mary.
Looking to end the weekend on a high note, the Quakers played VCU. Once again, Penn fell short in doubles losing at number two and three to give the Rams an early 1-0 lead.
In singles Mautner bounced back after losing his first set 4-6 to win the next set 6-3 and then earned the 6-0 "bagel" to clinch his match match.
