PHILADELPHIA - They say records were meant to be broken, and senior
Anna Ross did just that, notching the 429th assist of her career to take over the No. 1 spot all-time in the history of University of Pennsylvania (11-5) women's basketball. In addition to Ross' record, the Quakers got help from the whole squad on Sunday afternoon to dismantle visiting Gwynedd Mercy 89-25 in their final non-conference contest of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start offensively for both squads, as each team went scoreless for near four minutes after a 6-3 start to the game. Following the first media timeout of the game, the Quakers found their touch on offense, spurting ahead on a 12-0 run to end the period. In total, the Quakers held the Griffins scoreless for nearly 11 minutes of game action between the first and second quarters before Gwynedd Mercy found the bottom of the basket with 8:17 remaining in the second quarter.
The Quakers would then go on another long run of 17-0, making the score 33-5 midway through the second quarter. Coach McLaughlin substituted liberally, as Penn would finish the game with 58 bench points. Penn held a 37-10 advantage at halftime.
A strong third quarter saw the last action of the day from Penn's starting five, as the bench would receive the majority of play for the remainder of the game. Heading into the fourth quarter, the duo of Jackson and Daley exploded offensively, guiding the Red and Blue to their most effective 10 minute period of the day.
QUOTING COACH
"It's awesome. Anna's been a terrific player for four years. She's won two championships, she's always that kid that's second or third in people's thought process. Great athlete. Selfless. When you get an assist record that means a lot of sharing went on. I think that's great of a team sport, we just commended her for that ... It takes a lot of people to do what she did."
WHAT'S NEXT?
It's all Ivy League play remaining for the Quakers, as Penn gets back into the thick of conference action with its first Ancient Eight road trip, heading to Brown and Yale begining with a matchup with the Bears on Friday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.
