PHILADELPHIA - University of Pennsylvania men's squash freshman
Andrew Douglas has been named first team All-Ivy and first team All-America after completing what was an extraordinary rookie season. Douglas becomes the first Penn men's freshman to win first team All-American since Richard Repetto in 2001 and is the latest Penn men's freshman to win first team All-Ivy joining teammate
Marwan Mahmoud.
Stepping in as a freshman, Douglas went an impressive 14-6 at the team's No. 1 slot that including a 5-2 record in Ivy League play. The freshman got wins over Harvard, Dartmouth, Brown, Yale and Cornell while avenging his loss to Youssef Ibrahim of Princeton at the Team Championships.
With the help of Douglas, the Quakers made noise in the Ivy League ending their 13 year drought in Cornell with a sweep, defeating Yale for the first time since 1995, and starting the season 8-1, their best start since 1985, with a sweep over Brown.
After the team championships, Douglas earned himself a spot in the Pool Draw at the College Squash Association Individual National Championships. Due to his incredible regular season, the freshman was seeded in the top-4 which qualified him for first team All-American.
While Douglas' season may not have ended the way he would have liked, with a first round loss in the Men's National Championship to the eventual champion, the freshman still had a great rookie season with the Red and Blue.
Douglas pulled off dramatic wins most notably his 3-2 win over Ashley Davies that clinched the match against Rochester at Ringe and another 3-2 win against Dartmouth's Alvin Heumann helped the Quakers to another 5-4 win.
The Penn freshman ended with a 14-6 overall record for a 73.7% win percentage.
