CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams
PHILADELPHIA While junior Anna Aagenes was excelling on the track throughout the 2009 women’s track and field season for the University of Pennsylvania, she was also excelling in the classroom. The Doylestown, Pa., native was named to the
ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District second team Friday afternoon.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) vote on the top academic athletes from Division I, II, and III in eight districts. The honored athletes are selected based on their performances on the track and in the classroom.
Aagenes maintains a GPA of 3.73 at the Ivy League institution as a Gender, Culture & Society major and also has a minor in Hispanic Studies. She earned Academic All-Ivy honors this season as well. On the track, Aagenes was a second-team indoor and outdoor All-Ivy honoree, earned outdoor and indoor All-East honors, and helped set the school record in the 4x1500-meter relay.
Aagenes just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships. After reaching the NCAA East Regional Championships, Aagenes ran the best time of her career and the second-best time in school history to reach the finals of the event. However, in the finals, she finished just 1.2 seconds away from automatically qualifying for the national championship meet and was just four-hundredths of a second from receiving an at-large bid.
The three-year letterwinner will have one more shot at the NCAA Championships when she returns for her senior season in the Red and Blue in 2009-10.
