NEW YORK, N.Y. - Junior Anna Aagenes was victorious in the 1,000 meters as the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team finished in seventh-place at the 30-team Great Dane Classic held at The Armory in New York, N.Y., Friday.
Aagenes was tops in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:51.40. It was an ECAC qualifying time as Aagenes was the only competitor to break the three-minute barrier.
Senior Leah Brogan placed third for the Quakers in the 3,000 meters. Brogan's ECAC qualifying time of 9:47.67 was under the previous meet record time. Fellow senior Kinjal Parikh also scored in the event. She placed seventh, crossing the finish line in 10:19.02.
Freshman Kristen Judge finished fourth in the high jump as for the second consecutive week, Judge surpassed 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches).
Junior Hannah Cope qualified for the finals in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43 in the preliminaries and eventually finished sixth with a time of 8.40 in the finals.
Junior Jamie Massarelli scored for the women in the 500 meters, finishing sixth in a time of 1:17.01.
The distance medley relay team was third as they finished in 12:41.14, while the 1,600-meter relay team was eighth out of the 49 relay teams in the event, coming in with a time of 3:58.05.
Junior Kathryn Gevitz just missed on scoring in the triple jump. She was ninth in the event with her best leap measuring 11.54 meters (37-10.50 ft.).
Next up for the Quakers is the Penn State National meet in State College, Pa., on Jan. 30-31.
