Ali DeLuca Named Ivy Co-Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Season debuts don't go much better than the one senior midfielder Ali DeLuca had for Penn on Saturday. The leading returning scorer for head coach Karin Brower Corbett netted a career-high six goals for the Red and Blue as they started the 2010 campaign with a 14-7 win at Drexel. For her performance, DeLuca was named Ivy League Co-Player of the Week. This is DeLuca's second selection as Ivy Player of the Week.

The half dozen scores moved DeLuca into fifth-place all-time at Penn in goal scored with 106. She also advanced on Penn's all-time career points list, sliding into a tie for fifth at 143 career points.

DeLuca recorded a hat trick in each half against the Dragons, twice finding the back of the cage while game was deadlocked to give Penn a lead. She was consistent as usual in 1V1 play with four unassisted goals.

Freshman Maddie Poplawski was named to the Ivy League's weekly honor roll in her first week of collegiate game action. The rookie midfielder scored in her debut and was active in all phases of the game. She corralled a game-high four draw controls and picked up two ground balls.
