ECAC Weekly Release
PHILADELPHIA - It did not take long for Amanda Schlaefer to make her impact on the Penn gymnastics team felt. Just one meet in her freshman season, Schlaefer has earned the first ECAC Rookie of the Week award following solid performances on the vault and balance beam at the Lindsey Ferris Invitational.
With her collegiate debut coming on the balance beam, Schlaefer scored a 9.650 in her first collegiate event. Her mark was Penn's best routine on the event and placed her in an eighth place tie out of the 36 gymnasts that competed in the event.
Moving over to vault, the freshman scored a 9.7. This mark was just five-hundredths of a point behind teammate Laura DiPaolo and good enough for seventh place overall in the meet, giving her top-10 finishes in each of her two events. Her score also helped Penn score a 48.250 on vault, the highest of all six teams in the field.
Schlaefer and the rest of her teammates will be back in action this Friday night at home against Rutgers at 7 p.m. A full listing of the award winners is available on the ECAC's website.
