Philadelphia -- Andrew Richardson has been named an assistant coach for the University of Pennsylvania volleyball program. Richardson, a Muncie, Ind. native, comes to Penn after spending time as an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame. He also spent the past two years as the head varsity volleyball coach at Elwood Community High School in Elwood, Ind., as well as spending the past seven years as a coach with the Munciana Volleyball Club.
"I would like to welcome our new assistant coach, Andrew Richardson, to the Penn Volleyball program,” said Head Coach Kerry Carr. “He brings a lot of new ideas and energy to our program. We are excited to be able to work with him.”
While at Notre Dame, Richardson assisted with the coaching and management of the volleyball program. His duties included helping to run practices as well as scouting opponents and other match preparation. In addition to his duties at Notre Dame, Richardson was a coach and recruiting coordinator for the Munciana Volleyball Club in Muncie, Ind. As a coach, he worked with girls between the ages of 12 and 18 to improve their play in every area of the game. He worked closely with parents and team representatives on the progress of each player, as well as organizing practice and tournament schedules. As the recruiting coordinator, Richardson was in charge of collecting information on each of Munciana’s players in order to present that information to college coaches, as well as dealing with any coach who was interested in recruiting a Munciana player. He was also in charge of making skill tapes and highlight videos for each player to send out to collegiate coaches.
During his tenure as Head Coach at Elwood, Richardson was in charge of running and operating all facets of the volleyball program, including the organization and planning of all practices, matches, weight training, scouting, communicating with parents, faculty and administrators as well as coordinating all off-season activities.
In addition to his volleyball work, Richardson spent two years working for Field Source, Inc. on promotion and distribution campaigns for various Pepsi-Cola products.
Richardson is replacing former assistant coach Orlin Jespersen, who left Penn to become the Director of Intramurals and Recreation at Cabrini College.
