PHILADELPHIA – Fresh off the heels of the U.S. Olympic Trials, the Red and Blue will have two representatives competing at the U-23 NACAC (North American, Central American and Carribbean) Championships July 15th-17th in El Salvador. Sam Mattis and Thomas Awad will represent the United States at the meet where they’ll compete in the 1,500 meters and discus.
Awad toes the line for the 1,500 on Friday and is the top seed in the event out of 11 competitors with a time of 3:37.75. The 2016 graduate advanced to the semifinals in the same discipline at the U.S. Olympic Trials just a week ago and finished 24th overall.
Mattis also competes on Friday in the discus and also enters the event as the top seed with a distance of 67.45 meters amongst a group of 10 competitors. He finished ninth overall at the U.S. Olympic trials, throwing the implement 57.86 meters during his time in Eugene, Ore.
