PHILADELPHIA – For the second time this year, University of Pennsylvania cross country junior captain Thomas Awad has been named HepsTrack.com’s Male Athlete of the Week. In the sixth release of the season, Heps.Track gave Awad the title for leading the Quakers to third place in the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, after finishing the 8k West Windsor Fields course first overall with a time of 24:00. Awad beat out Virginia Tech’s Stuart Robertson (24:01) for the overall win in the men’s championship race.
The Red and Blue totaled 139 team points in the men’s championship race, while other members from Penn ran in the men’s open race and scored 32 teams points for a first place finish.
In the women’s 6k championship race, the team also finished third, with 122 points, as the top three runners finished back-to-back-to-back, two seconds apart for 13-15th place. Several freshmen also had their chance on the course when they competed in the women’s open and finished second with 110 team points.
Not only was the Princeton Invitational the last race before Heps, but it supplied the Red and Blue with a good preview of what they will be up against when they face the rest of the Ancient Eight on November 1.
