PHILADELPHIA Senior defensive back Scott Williams (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay) and senior offensive guard Sean Estrada (Santa Ana, Calif./Servite) were unanimously selected by their peers as captains for the 131st season of University of Pennsylvania football.
“From my perspective, I believe these are two outstanding choices,” said the George A. Munger Head Coach of Football, Al Bagnoli. “They have won the respect and admiration of the coaches and players alike and have displayed a tremendous work ethic, a commitment to excellence, and a deep love and respect for the game.”
Williams earned honorable mention All-Ivy honors in 2005 after registering 45 tackles and adding two interceptions, including one pick for a touchdown against Brown, for the Red and Blue.
Estrada also was an honorable mention All-Ivy pick last season for the Quakers, as he started in all 10 games and paved the way for a rushing attack that averaged 124.9 yards per game.
Williams and Estrada are the 179th and 180th team captains at Penn.
The Quakers have completed spring practices and will open the 2006 season on Saturday, Sept. 16, in Easton, Pa., to take on Patriot League foe Lafayette.
