LANTANA, Fla. - The University of Pennsylvania baseball team opened the 2007 campaign with a loss to northeast power Maine, 14-7. Josh Corn, Alex Nwaka, Tim May andWilliam Gordon all recorded multi-hit games for the Quakers.
Junior Nick Francona (0-1) started on the mound for Penn (0-1). He surrendered five earned runs on eight hits in three and a third innings. Greg Norton (1-0) hurled six solid innings for Maine (1-0). He allowed three runs on seven hits, while walking none and striking out three.
Nwaka was the star offensivley for the Red and Blue. He went 3-for-5 with one run scored and a stolen base. Corn collected two hits and scored two runs. May had two hits and drove in one run, while scoring twice.
Freshman Reid Terry knocked in two runs in the eighth inning on double.
Penn plays a doubleheader Sunday; facing St. Bonaventure at 11 a.m. and Mount St. Mary's at 3:45 p.m.
