PHILADELPHIA – Penn is on a modest two-game winning streak, and has picked up wins in four of its last five baseball games, but this weekend presents a new challenge for the season – a weekend featuring a pair of doubleheaders.
The Quakers, 7-5 on the season, head to Emmitsburg, Md. for a four-game set with Mt. St. Mary’s. Last year, the Quakers took three of four from The Mount at Meiklejohn Stadium.
Mt. St. Mary’s is 3-7 on the season, but all three wins have come over its last four games. Most recently, The Mount defeated Navy, 10-7.last time out.
The Quakers have been on fire at the plate lately, scoring seven or more runs in each of their last six games. As a team, the Quakers are hitting .323. Jeremy Maas leads the team with a .532 average. He has eight doubles and 14 RBI on the season to go with an OPS of 1.412.
Sophomore Adrian Lorenzo has also been performing well at the dish, hitting at a .432 clip.
Penn already has five players in double digits in RBI. Last year, the Red and Blue six reach that mark all season. Last season, over 39 games, the Quakers scored 191 runs 0 an average of 4.9 a game. In 2009, over 12 games, Penn has scored 101 runs – an average of 8.4 a game.
