PHILADELPHIA - The Penn baseball team hosts its second annual Dinner on the Diamond this Saturday evening beginning 5 p.m. at Meiklejohn Stadium.
A fundraiser for the Penn baseball program, the Dinner on Diamond features a catered dinner on Meiklejohn Stadium that runs from 5-8 p.m. Literally a dinner on the baseball diamond, Penn parents, donors and alums are seated at tables in the infield or on the outfield grass while being served by current Penn baseball players in uniform. Preceding the dinner, the Red and Blue play the 2010 Junior College National Champions, Gloucester County College, in three scrimmages beginning at 9 a.m. and going until 3 p.m.
During the event, the Penn Baseball Board will also honor the 1975 and 1995 Ivy League champions. The 1975 squad won the Ivy League title after finishing 25-9, led by hurler Andy Muhlstock who went 10-2 with 79 strikeouts and a 2.05 ERA. The 1995 team finished 25-21 was led by Ivy Pitcher of the Year Ed Haughey, who went 8-3 with 57 strikeouts and a 3.10 ERA.
The Quakers return 14 letterwinners in 2011, including four starting pitchers and six defensive starters on a team which played for the Lou Gerhig division title on the final weekend of the 2010 season.
