HANOVER, N.H - Playing its first Ivy League games on the road in 2016, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team split a doubleheader with Dartmouth on Saturday, losing game one 2-1, but taking a home run-fueled 11-1 win in the second.
Game One: Penn 1 - Dartmouth 2
FIRST INNING ISSUE: It's been five games since the Quakers had allowed a run in the first inning, but on Saturday Dartmouth broke the streak when Dustin Shirley singled home the game's first run three batters in.
HALEAVING THE BALLPARK: Down 1-0 in the the top of the second, Daniel Halevy ensured that the Big Green's lead didn't last long. The sophomore from Houston, Texas led off the inning with his first home run of the year, a line drive to left field that tied the game at one.
BIG GREEN'S BIG MOMENT: Still tied in the seventh and final inning, Dartmouth loaded the bases with one out, leading to a game-winning sacrifice fly by Nick Ruppert that sent the Big Green onto the field to mob their teammate.
Game Two: Penn 11 - Dartmouth 1
MIGHTY MINCHER: Continuing his impressive play over the last two weeks, Ryan Mincher put the Quakers on the board with a three-run home run in the first inning. Following back-to-back singles from Sean Phelan and Daniel Halevy, Mincher sent a ball over the left field fence for his fourth long ball of the year.
LONG GRAUL: Still leading 3-0 in the fifth, Tim Graul launched a high fly ball to left that carried out of the ballpark. Graul's towering blast made it 4-0 after five.
THREE MAKES A TREND: In the sixth, it was Matt O'Neill joining in on the fun. With Mincher at first, O'Neill hit the longest home run of the day, sending a ball over the safety netting in left field at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park.
NON-HOME RUNS: Leading 6-0, the Quakers scored three times in the seventh and once in the eighth and ninth to run away with an 11-1 win. Phelan had an RBI fielder's choice in the seventh, followed by a two-run single by Mincher. Phelan added another RBI in the eighth with a double, and O'Neill tacked on the final run with a run-scoring single in the game's final inning.
QUAKER NOTES: Ryan Mincher fell a double short of the cycle in game two... Mincher went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, and a single and five RBIs... Mincher and Tim Graul both scored three runs in the second game... Gabe Kleiman picked up the win in game two, shrinking his already league leading ERA... Kleiman went six shutout innings, allowing four hits... Jonah Campbell made his second appearance on the mound this year... He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out two.
