Philadelphia - University of Pennsylvania guard Tim Begley (Freehold, N.J.) was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District Team. The senior captain leads the Quakers in points (14.0 ppg), assists (110) and three-point field goals (64.
Begley received second-team honors for District III.He was one of six Philadelphia Big 5 players to be named to the All-District III team, but is the only Ivy League player to make the list.
Begley became the 32nd member of the 1,000 point club on Feb. 5 against Dartmouth. With five games left in the regular season, the senior captain stands 26th all-time in program history with 1,084 points. He is also just four three-pointers away from breaking the school record for career trifectas and is third in the Penn archives in assists with 399. Begley currently stands fourth in the Ivy League record book in three-pointers with 240.
NABC recognizes the country’s best men’s basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country. The 150 student-athletes from 15 districts will be eligible for NABC All-American Team at the conclusion of the 2004-05 basketball season The Red and Blue are 8-1 in the Ivy League and 15-8 overall.
Penn continues its current Ivy road trip with a stop in Ithaca, N.Y. on Feb. 25 to take on Cornell. The Quakers and Big Red tip-off at 7 p.m.
