PHILADELPHIA The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District at-large team on Wednesday, May 23. Penn senior Mikhail Bekker was named First-Team in District II for the first time in his career. To be eligible for consideration a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and a starter or key reserve with a 3.2 GPA. The teams were voted on by CoSIDA members from around the country.
Bekker finished his senior season with a 12-9 record at singles, including a 5-3 Ivy League record, playing mostly at No. 3. He was honorable mention All-Ivy in singles this year, and the co-captain helped lead the team to their second straight ECAC championship title this fall and the team’s second straight Ivy League title in the spring. He was also selected as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Tennis Performer of the Year in both 2006 and 2007.
Bekker, a first-team selection, is now eligible to be selected for Academic All-America.
