PHILADELPHIA Junior Mikhail Bekker was voted Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s Tennis Performer of the Year by the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors (PhillySIDA). The teams were announced inthe June 25Inquirer.
Bekker, a co-captain, helped lead the Quakers to their first Ivy League title in 35 years. The Moscow native posted a 28-7 overall singles record, including a 12-6 mark while playing mainly from the second position. In Ivy League play he was 6-1, earning unanimous first-team All-Ivy honors for the second straight season.
Enrolled in the Wharton School, Bekker has earned a 3.65 cumulative grade-point average.
Graduated senior Jimmy Fairbanks, C ’06, also received recognition in the Inquirer. Fairbanks went 14-11 in singles, playing mainly at the No. 6 position. He graduated in May with a 3.93 GPA.
