PHILADELPHIA- The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its weekly awards in men's and women's basketball, and Penn senior guard Tyler Bernardini has been named the Co-Big 5 Player of the Week on the men's side.
Bernardini shares the award with Villanova's Maalik Wayns. This is thesecond time a Penn player has been honored by the Big 5 this season -- Bernardini was also honored on Dec. 26 -- and it is thefourth time Bernardini has been honored by the city's unofficial conference during his career.
Bernardini earned his award after leading the Quakers to an 84-80 win over Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's on Saturday night at The Palestra. In front of a sellout crowd, the senior guard led Penn with 24 points and six rebounds.
Penn (10-9, 2-0 Ivy League) has won three in a row for the first time this season. The Quakers are off until next Monday, when they host Ivy League archrival Princeton at The Palestra. All of Penn's last 12 games will come in the Ancient Eight.
