PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly honors for men's basketball, and freshman Tyler Bernardini has been named the Rookie of the Week.
It marks the fourth time that Bernardini has been so honored this season, and the sixth time overall a Penn player has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Overall, there has been only one week where a non-Penn player was named top rookie on a week after the Quakers played a game.
Bernardini won the award largely based on his performance against La Salle last Tuesday, when he led all scorers with 20 points and also had six rebounds and two steals. He followed that up with five points and four boards in the Quakers' Big 5 game with Saint Joseph's on Saturday night.
Penn is back in action Wednesday night, traveling to North Broad to complete its Big 5 season at Temple. Tipoff is 7 p.m. at the Owls' Liacouras Center, and the game will be the Quakers' last non-conference contest of 2007-08.
