PHILADELPHIA - The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced its PING All-Region teams for the 2007-08 academic year, and Penn junior Michael Blodgett is one of15 members named to the Mid-Atlantic Region squad. With the recognition, Blodgett is now eligible for PING All-America honors.
Blodgett earned the honor with a stellar year, capped off by his becoming the first Quaker golfer to win medalist honors at the Ivy League Championships in April. In the second round of that tournament, Blodgett matched the Galloway (N.J.) National Golf Club course record that had been set in the first round; prior to that day, the course record was held by Hale Irwin.
Blodgett competed in all nine events in which Penn participated in 2007-08, and finished with ateam-best stroke average of 73.5 over 20 rounds. He was Penn’s No. 1 finisher in seven events, andin addition to his Ivy titleBlodgett finishedfirst overall at Don Mershon Classic (75-75--150) and tied for first overall vs. UC San Diego with a 75.
