PHILADELPHIA Penn graduate and baseball player Joey Boaen C’07 has added yet another academic honor to his growing list. Wednesday he was selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Baseball team. The 10-member team was voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 Philadelphia metropolitan area institutions.
Tuesday, Boaen was selected Academic All-Ivy for the second-consecutive year. Back in April he was selected as one of 20 finalists nationally for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Last season he was voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First-Team. Boaen graduated with an economics degree earlier this month.
Last week Boaen was named Second-Team All-Ivy for his athletic accomplishments. He batted .310 on the season with 26 RBI and four home runs. Boaen hit safely in 14 games to end the season, which was the longest streak by any Penn player this season. He led the team in hits (49) and stolen bases (9). He was one of the Quakers’ most clutch hitters, batting .375 with runners in scoring position.
