PHILADELPHIA The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team’s return to Franklin Field was an excitingone, as the Quakers defeated Lafayette College, 2-0, Wednesday night.
Senior co-captain Lea Salese scored her fourth goal of the season just six minutes into the Quakers' home opener, scoring off a re-direct ona penalty corner. Penn held the 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
After the half, the Red and Blue attack came out on fire, controlling the ball for most of the period. Sophomore Kara Bolger scored the Quakers’ insurance goal 10 minutes into the second half on a feed from Meghan Rose. Bolger’s goal was her first collegiate tally, while Rose has two assists this season.
Lafayette (2-2) gave the Red and Blue a little scare with eight minutes to go when they were awarded one of their two penalty corners. Laura Fabian and Kasey Gallagher both had chances to score, but both shots went wide.
Penn (3-2) outshot the Leopards, 11-8, and held a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners. In the cage, junior Elizabeth Schlossberg made two saves en route to recording her ninth career shutout.
The Red and Blue return to Ancient Eight action when they host Cornell on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11:30 a.m.
