PHILADELPHIA - Capping off outstanding sophomore seasons, Dana Bonincontri and Kirsten Strausbaugh have both earned USAG All-American accolades following the USAG Championships this past weekend at the Air Force Academy. Bonincontri earned first-team USAG All-America honors in the all-around, uneven bars and floor exercise, while also earning second-team USAG honors in the vault. Strausbaugh garnered second-team USAG All-America honors in the all-around and floor exercise.
Bonincontri's first-team honors come after she placed third in the uneven bars and fourth in the floor exercise at the USAG Championships. She also finished fifth overall in the all-around. On the uneven bars, Bonincontri scored a 9.75 to qualify for the event finals and showed improvement in the finals, scoring 9.775 to finish in third place for the meet. On the floor, Bonincontri scored a 9.8 in the qualifying round and scored a 9.75 in the event finals to finish in fourth place.
In the Friday qualifying session, Bonincontri scored a 38.525 in the all-around, which was good enough for fifth place and another USAG All-America honor. Also in the Friday qualifying session, Bonincontri scored a 9.7 on the vault, which placed her just .025 points out of the event finals, but as an alternate for the vault finals, she earned second-team USAG All-America honors for the event.
Strausbaugh also had a very impressive showing in the all-around during the Friday qualifying session. In total, she scored a 38.375, which placed her eighth overall in the all-around between the two sessions and qualified her to be second-team USAG All-America in that event. In her best routine, floor exercise, Strausbaugh scored a 9.7 and just missed out on qualifying for the event finals, but as an alternate for the finals she earned second-team USAG All-America honors in this event as well.
