Full ECAC Release
PHILADELPHIA - Amber Woo and Dana Bonincontri have each earned ECAC weekly awards following their performance against Yale. This gives Penn four weekly awards in the first three weeks of the season. Woo was named ECAC co-rookie of the week after earning the award outright the week before. Penn has had a rookie of the week in each of the first three award periods. Bonincontri was named ECAC Specialist of the Week after a pair of solid routines on the uneven bars and beam. These two gymnasts helped Penn achieve their second consecutive 191-plus team score.
Woo captured her first collegiate all-around title this past weekend against Yale, finishing with a combined score of 38.025 in her four events. For the second straight week her all-around score was the highest amongst ECAC freshmen. She shares the weekly award with Yale's Joyce Li. Li finished with an all-around score of 37.725, placing her second behind Woo.
Penn's freshman all-around gymnast started out her day on bars, scoring 9.3, just two-tenths off her season high that she set two weekends ago. On vault, Woo set her first of two season highs on the day, scoring 9.575, to finish in fourth overall in that event.
On the floor, Woo scored her second 9.575 of the day, which was also a season high for her in that event. This placed her fifth overall in the floor exercise. On her final event, Woo again scored 9.575 on the balance beam, finishing in third overall for the event.
After earning ECAC Athlete of the Year honors last season, Bonincontri looks to be working her way into mid-season form as she works her way back to being an all-around gymnast in the Penn lineup. Competing on bars for the third time this season, the junior scored a season-best 9.775, finishing the event in first place overall. Bonincontri won the uneven bars four times a season ago.
Bonincontri also made her season debut on the beam against Yale. Despite competing in the event for just the first time this season, Bonincontri put up a mark of 9.625. That score was good enough to put her in second place overall on the beam at Yale.
Bonincontri, Woo and the rest of the Quakers' gymnasts will be back on the road this weekend as the team travels to Cornell on Saturday for a tri-meet that includes Brockport. Action gets underway 1 p.m.
