PHILADELPHIA – For the second consecutive year, University of Pennsylvania catcher Austin Bossart has been named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list.
The junior co-captain started and caught in 40 games in 2013 for the Quakers, while hitting .278, with eight doubles, four triples, three home runs, and 25 RBI. Defensively, Bossart threw out 29 of 51 would-be base stealers.
Bossart has started the 2014 season hitting .313, with a double, home run, and 4 runs batted in.
The Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com, is given by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. Seventy-two catchers were nominated for the award, given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher.
