PHILADELPHIA – For the third consecutive season, University of Pennsylvania catcher Austin Bossart has been named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list.
The senior catcher has started every game in his Penn career, entering the 2015 season with 124 hits, 21 doubles, five triples, and seven home runs, along with driving in 61 base runners. He also has thrown out almost 40-percent of baserunners (50-of-126).
Thus far in 2015, Bossart is hitting .458, with a double, home run, and three RBI. He also has stolen four bases. Defensively, he has thrown out two baserunners.
Bossart has been named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list previously in 2014 and 2013.
The Johnny Bench Award presented by BaseballSavings.com, is given by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. Seventy-five catchers were nominated for the award, given annually to the top Division I collegiate catcher.
