NEW YORK CITY--Junior Shani Boston scored 3,708 points to winthe pentathlon and set a personal best in the event in Day One of Heptagonals. Penn qualified for the finals of four events to be run Sunday.
Boston's win in the pentathlon added 10 more team points to move the Quakers into a three-way tie for fourth place with Princeton and Yale. Shecombined times of 9.21 in the 60 meter hurdles and 2:32.23 in the 800 meters with 1.58 meters in the high jump, 13.85 meters in the shot put and 5.43 meters in the long jump.
Shaunee Morgan and Laura McDaniel both qualified for the finals of 60 meter dashwhile Morgan will also run the finals of the 200 meters leading the field with a time of 24:37 in the semifinals.
Jesse Carlin also ran the fastest time--2:09.58--in the trials of the800 meter run.
Stacy Kim was second in the preliminaries of the one mile run with a time of 4:49.84 to qualify for the finals.
Whitney Tagliavini scored Penn's first points of Heps with two team points for her fifth-place finish in the long jump. She marked 5.59 metersshort offour jumpers from Cornell.
The Quakers will wrap up the finals of the above events and take on their Ivy foes in the 3000 meter run, 4x400 meter relay,4x800 meter relay, high jump, triple jump and shot put.
