PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania senior baseball player Spencer Branigan was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District member on Thursday. With this honor, he now has the chance to be named an Academic All-American later this month.
A team captain and four-year starter for the Quakers, Branigan ended his years in the Red and Blue by putting up career-best numbers in batting average (.308), hits (44) and doubles (14) this season. He also sparkled in the field, spending much of his time at first base and amassing a .991 fielding percentage.
For his career, Branigan played in 142 games while batting .279. A first-team All-Ivy selection in 2011, he hit seven of his 10 career home runs that season and leaves fifth on the program’s all-time list in doubles with 38.
Branigan will graduate in the coming days with a Communications degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, where to date he has accumulated a GPA of 3.43.
