PHILADELPHIA--Newcomer Erin Brennan scored a pair of goals and an assist against Fairfield last weekend and was acknowledged by Inside Lacrosse and womenslacrosse.com for her efforts. It is her third such honor from womenslacrosse.com this season and first from Inside Lacrosse.
Brennan's assist to Giulia Giordano proved to be the winner as Fairfield battled back in the waning minutes of Sunday's NCAA first round contest. The Quakers held on for a 10-8 victory and advanced to play Duke, the winner of a 15-13 overtime thriller with Virginia. Brennan also tacked on two of each ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers in the game.
Penn and Duke will square off for the first time since the Quakers' heart-stopping overtime win in the 2008 NCAA semifinal. The revenge-minded Blue Devils will travel to Philadelphia, Saturday with the first draw set for 1 p.m.
