Brennan Repeats as Rookie of the Week

PHILADELPHIA--Freshman standout Erin Brennan was named this week’s national rookie of the week. Her standout play helped defeat No. 5 Duke, and secure a spot in the 2009 women’s lacrosse final four. This is Brennan’s second consecutive national honor and her second award.

During Penn’s quarterfinal matchup last weekend Brennan had four points. With two goals and another two assists Brennan helped lead the Quakers past the Blue Devils. Brennan had two goals early in the first half to help the Red and Blue get out to an early lead. After Penn fell behind late into the second half, Brennan led a strong comeback to tie the game at 9-all, and send the game into overtime, with two assists on the last two goals of regulation. Along with her points Brennan also had a pair of ground balls and three draw controls for the Quakers.

Brennan and Penn will now square off against Northwestern in their final four matchup. The game will be the third consecutive time that Penn and Northwestern will face off in the NCAA Tournament. The most recent was in last year’s national championship game where Northwestern won 10-6. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m. in Towson, Md.
