Brogan Sets ECAC Mark for Women's Track and Field

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - On the first day of competition at the Penn State National meet, senior Leah Brogan qualified for the ECAC's in the 5,000 meters for the University of Pennsylvania women's indoor track and field team Friday.

At one of the most competitive meets in the nation this week, Brogan was one of just four runners to come in under the 17-minute mark in the 5,000 meters. She was fourth of 20 runners in the event with her time of 16:58.47. In her first running of the event this season, she was just 13 seconds from provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

Senior Whitney Tagliavini was 14th out of 34 competitors in the long jump. Tagliavini's second jump was her best at 5.53 meters (18 feet, 1 3/4 inches).

Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the 400 meters. The field events get underway at 11 a.m. with the shot put and high jump. The conclusion of the meet at 5:50 p.m. that night with the 1,600-meter relay.
