PHILADELPHIA - Penn women's lacrosse head coach Karin Brower has been named the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week for the week ending April 1.
Brower led the 14th-ranked Quakers past No. 12 Johns Hopkins last Wednesday, 12-4, then guided the team by Columbia, 14-6, on Saturday. Penn has won five in a row and, at 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the Ivy League, has tied its best start in program history and is off to its best Ivy start since 1977. The Quakers are one of just six Division I teams left with one loss (none are undefeated).
Brower is the first coach of a non-ACC team to earn the award this year. Previous recipients of the Coach of the Week honor were all from the powerhouse conference:Maryland's Cathy Reese, Virginia's Julie Myers and North Carolina's Jenny Levy.
Penn will return to action Tuesday night with a trip to No. 10 Penn State at 7 p.m.
