Bucar and Slover to Serve as 2009-10 Captains

PHILADELPHIA - Senior guards Sarah Bucar and Caitlin Slover will serve as captains for the University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team during the 2009-10 season set to begin Sunday against Drexel.

Slover saw action in all 28 games last season and is the only four-year senior on the team. She is the team's top returning scorer from last year’s squad, as well as the Quakers’ most accurate shooter from behind the arc (.357). Last season, she recorded her first collegiate double-double (18 points, 13 rebounds) against Brown on Feb. 28. Slover is the top returning rebounder with 118 (4.2 per game) from last season and was second on the team in steals last year with 30.

Bucar is a returning captain from last season. Though she was forced to sit out seven games last year due to injury, she is the top returning player with 40 assists last year, averaging almost two per game. She is the second highest returning scorer from last season, after Slover.

Penn opens its 2009-2010 campaign on the road at Drexel this Sunday at 1 p.m. Following another away game against Villanova on the 18th, the Quakers home season opener will be on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m when they host Duquesne.

The 21st will be an action packed day for Quaker fans as it is the last regular season home game for Penn football and the men’s basketball team has its home opener as well following the women’s game.
