Buechel Places Fourth in Epee to Pace Quakers at NCAA Championships

Houston, Texas -- University of Pennsylvania sophomore Holly Buechel finished fourth in the women's epee on Sunday at the the NCAA Fencing Championships held at Rice University and Harris County-Houston Sports Authority.

With her finish, Buechel earned first-team All-American honors. It was the second consecutive season in which she earned All-American status. After being seeded No. 1 heading into the final round of competition, Buechel fell 15-5 in the first round and 15-10 in the bronze medal bout.

In addition to Buechel, who won the team round of the weapon with 18 wins, four other members of the Red and Blue competed in the NCAA Championships. In the women's sabre, Katelyn Sherry placed ninth with 15 wins and weaponmateCassandra Frey finished20th in the weapon withseven victories.Christina Kaneshigeplaced 15th in the foil with ten wins and Eve Overton placed22nd with three wins in the weapon.

In the combined team competition, the seven Penn fencers in the competition finished in seventh place with 85 points overall.
