Burley and Jaworski Advance at the USA Track and Field Championships

Los Angeles, Calif. - Junior Courtney Jaworski and former Quaker Sam Burley, C’03 both qualified for the preliminaries of the 800m run at the 2005 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by Visa on Thursday evening.

In the first round, Jaworski was second in his heat, running a time of 1:50.77, while Burley won his heat with a time of 1:50.41. Eighteen runners in all qualified to the semifinals which will be run on Friday evening at 7:10 p.m. The top-four finishers in each semifinal heat and the next fastest time will advance to Sunday’s final.

Jaworski is coming off a seventh-place finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships and his fastest time in 800m. The Tacoma, Wash. native ran 1:46.7 and earned All-America honors for the first time.

Burley was a three-time All-America for Penn from 2001-2003 and NCAA Champion in 2003.

The Quakers have two other connections at the Outdoor Championships - freshman Mike Hall is competing in the men's junior decathlon, while Penn assistant coach Jamie Cook is competing in the men's open decathlon.
