Tentative Penn Boatings
PHILADELPHIA - Two regattas this weekend - one Saturday and one Sunday - will have representatives from the University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight rowing team. On Saturday, the Red and Blue will compete on their home course on the Schuylkill River at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Then on Sunday, the team will close out their fall season at Lake Carnegie in the Princeton 3-mile Chase.
The Quakers will have boats in four races on Saturday, beginning at 9:05 a.m. with the men's open pairs race. The Freshman 4 race is then scheduled to take off at 9:20 a.m., followed by the Freshman 8 at 11:40 a.m. Penn's final event of the day will be the men's open fours race which is set to begin at 1:35 p.m.
On Sunday, the first Heavyweight race is scheduled for 10 a.m. with the men's heavyweight varsity 8. Two hours later, the heavyweight fours begin, followed Freshman 8 event at 1 p.m.
Last year, the Freshman 4 had a first place time of 15:05:51, beating out seven other competing teams at the Head of the Schuylkill. The Freshman 8 boat also placed 13th out of a 30-boat race with a time of 15:07:69. The Varsity 8 race at Princeton had two competing boats place 11th and 23rd respectively out of a 40-boat race. Penn A had a time of 13:53:413 and Penn B came in about three minutes behind clocking in at 16:56:377. The Freshman 8 boat placed fourth with a time of 14:29:809.
Penn's heavyweights are one week removed from the Head of the Charles. The Quakers had two boats compete at the prestigious event on Oct. 18.
