Caldwell Repeats as Ivy League Rookie of the Week

Ivy League Release

PHILADELPHIA -The awards keep rolling in for Penn volleyball thanks to a pair of precocious freshmen. For the second straight week, do-it-all right side hitter Alex Caldwell has won the Ivy League Rookie of the Week award after two solid matches on the road against Dartmouth and Harvard. She joins setter Ronnie Bither with two Rookie of the Week awards so far this season.

Caldwell started things off on Friday night as part of a dominant team effort in Penn's 3-0 win over the Big Green of Dartmouth. Though she only had 12 attacks in the match, she made the most of them, submitting six kills to only one error for a .417 hitting percentage. Splitting time between hitter and setter, she led the Quakers with 12 assists in the match and added eight digs.

Though she fell just short of a triple-double on Saturday at Harvard, she may have played one of her strongest matches of the season across all facets. As if her eight kills, 25 assists and 18 digs weren't enough, Caldwell displayed her rapidly developing instinct at the net with one solo block and four block assists.

After its weekend on the road, Penn returns home to The Palestra this weekend for a critical set of matches, facing Cornell on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Columbia at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.
