SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Junior Kyle Calvo scored7,134 points in the decathlonto finish 16that the NCAA Championshipin Sacramento, Calif.
Calvo finished seventh in the 100 meter dash in a timeof 11.12. He followed with a mark of 7.27m (23'10.25") in the long jump for third and marked 12.26m (40'2.75") in the shot put. Through three events, he ranked third, edging the fourth-place contender by just four points.
In the final two events ofDay One, Calvo cleared 1.87m (6'1.50") in the high jump, tying for 18th in the event and then finished with a 10th-place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.25.
On Day Two started with the 110 meter hurdles which Calvo ran in a time of 14.86 for ninth place. He threw the discus 36.44m (119'7") for 19th place. He cleared 4.50m (14'9") in the pole vault and finished tied for seventh. In the javelin throw, Calvo marked 47.77m (156'9"). Finally, in the 1500 meter run, Calvo finished 23rd with a time of 5:04.52.
The University of Arizona's Jake Arnold won the event with 8,215points. Arnold also won the event in 2006.
