PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly honorees in men's soccer, and Penn freshman forward Travis Cantrell has been honored as the co-rookie of the week along with Brown's Thomas McNamara. It marked the first time this season a Penn player has received one of the Ivy League's weekly awards.
Cantrell earned the award for the first time this season, and it was well-earned as he scored his first collegiate goal with 22 minutes left to life the Quakers to a 1-0 win over Yale Saturday afternoon. The win was Penn's first in Ivy play this season.
Princeton's Antoine Hoppenot was named the Ivy League Player of the Week. Penn freshman goalkeeper Garon Smith was named to the weekly honor roll for his four saves in the Quakers' shutout victory.
Penn (5-6-3, 1-2-1 Ivy League) is in action Saturday, taking on Brown in Providence, R.I., at 1 p.m.
